Well, it’s a little late, seeing as this episode came out a week ago and now the third’s out – however I suppose it’s understandable seeing as I claim to have a life, which doesn’t solely revolve around anime and manga *cough*. Anyways, here we are again, with the next episode of Vampire Knight – going pretty quickly isn’t it? Well it feels that way to me at any rate. Seeing as I want to get on with episode 3, I’ll try and be rather quick with this one – just a few screenshots and my own thoughts about the episode.
First off let’s begin with a summary of the episode.

Zero’s problems with the blood tablets are getting more and more obvious to us as an audience – poor chap, seems that he reacts to them, unlike other vampires – and yes, for those of you who still haven’t guessed, he is a vampire, though I won’t divulge why he’s not in the Night Class and stuff for those of you who aren’t readers of the manga – be patient is what I say – it may be explained in a more dramatic way in the anime than in the manga for all I know. Besides, waiting for stuff is good XD.

Ah, I’m rambling now – focus Viz, focus! – where were we? Ah, yes. Zero’s having problems, while the world seemingly doesn’t seem to notice. Meanwhile, life at school goes on, and everyone’s getting excited now that the all important Valentine’s Day is coming up – especially the Class President of Yuki, Yori and Zero’s class, whose greatest wish is for the lovely Ruka of the Night Class to give him a gift for Valentine’s Day. (Remember, in Japan it’s the girls who give gifts to the guys). Haha, I’m starting to like this nutter! As if Ruka would XD.
Yuki’s getting a little excited too, while Zero just sends out bad vibes – dude, your chakra is so out of contol, you need some herbal tea and some rainbows ~ lol. Some more flashbacks to the day Zero came to them, and we then cut to a scene in the Moon Dorm. They’re getting ready to head off for class – you can hear the excited girls outside, and I honetly can’t see how they aren’t afraid of being trampled by the hormones – then again they have Kaname with them. As Ichijo said in one of the manga chapters, they seem to instinctually understand that he is a “fiendish creature wearing the skin of a beautiful human” – ah he’s so perceptive. Anyways, I think that’s the real reason they wait for Kaname – not the whole honour thing, but more like the fear of being rushed without him. Okay, so that’s a complete lie, but it amuses me to think of it that way.

Meanwhile, there’s chaos outside the moon dorm with many of the girls trying to scale the walls, though it’s apparently illegal to give chocolates before the day itself – Yuki tries to keep control with the power of a whistle – personally I think if Zero just whipped out his gun and stood in a corner looking miserable they’d be far more successful. When one of the girls falls Zero saves her and gains an admirer – Kaz totally adores him, so that’s at least two I know of personally and of course there’s the million or so others on the net ^^. As for me? Ah, he’s cute, that’s true, but the only thing I especially love is his voice, and that basically means I love Mamoru Miyano XD – so you know, I’m searching for any anime he’s a seiyu in, in particular this season. Know of any? Then do tell – I may already have scouted most of them out though XD.
Continuing on, Zero threatens the girls with the old “you keep breaking the rules and the event will be cancelled” line – haha, they sure don’t like that! Yuki jumps down from the wall – this girl does some dangerous things -_- no wonder everyone acts like they’ve gotta protect her – and then the Night Class come out. I’m just as happy as all those girls – let us pause to watch the bishounen goodness (bishouness) walk past. Yuki stares at Kaname for a moment, before the sea of hormones attacks again.

While Yuki tries to keep them under control, Aido plays up his Idol nickname to the max, getting the girls to chirp back a happy response. He tells Wild to do the same – yeah, that’s not going to happen. Kaname says hi to Yuki, who totally gets excited and then has to deal with the annoyed glares of the Cross Academy Day Class Female Population (ah that’s a mouthful – let’s call them the CADCF Population for short if I ever refer to them again). Suddenly Kaname stops and decides he has to have a little chat with Zero – he tells him to take care of himself and then walks on.
Zero tells Kaname that he’ll take on any of his challenges and Aido is totally cheesed off, but does nothing with a warning from Wild. The Day Class watch the Night Class leave.
Later that evening Yuki’s making some chocolate – I’m sure we can all guess who for – she psyches herself up while Zero listens outside the door. He walks down the corridor and we hear the classic sounds of a shojo heroine falling over. Zero ’s having those problems again – he collapses by the window and is then approached by Headmaster Cross, who offers him a blood tablet. Zero rejects it, smashing the glass – temper temper.
We join up with Yuki and Zero once again the next afternoon – classes are over and it’s time for the big event! Woo! Yuki has a few more thoughts, before we finally end up outside the Moon Dorm where the girls have gathered just as the Night Class come out. Yuki explains the rules to the Night class – they’re supposed to go to each of the gate-like things and collect as much chocolate as they can and then continue on to lessons.

We now get some fun from the Night Class – I love them soo much! We have Aido all excited and about to sprint off when Kaname warns him to behave himself (awww!). Then we have Ichijo being a good little vampy and collecting gifts from the girls while Shiki walks past with Rima – sadly for Shiki, Ichijo catches him and drags him off to help with the cause! *laughes* His face is priceless! Meanwhile, Ruka is looking totally bored and perhaps she’s a little jealous that girls are able to give Kaname gifts while she herself can’t – don’t worry Ruka, your knight in shining armour has come! It’s the Class President! Rather than wait for a gift from her, he couldn’t resist and made something for her instead – ah, he’s really awesome! And what’s Aido up to now? Asking a girl her blood type of course – Yuki brings out the red card and stops all that – only the chocolate Aido, nothing else! I kinda agree – I’m not sharing him with anyone else, so yeah, go Yuki! XD
Kaname decides he can’t carry anymore and starts to make his exit – he says farewell to Yuki and tells her not to get hurt. Yuki thinks she’s missed her chance, and then gets knocked down by some girls, her gift dropping to the ground. Zero picks it up and throws it to Kaname, saying he dropped it and Kaname thanks Yuki before going, Seiren in toe. Aww, Zero is such a nice guy! Yuki decides to give him a lecture though – and complains – Zero tells her that he was annoyed that she wasn’t giving it to him and Yuki answers that it may have troubled Kaname to get a chocolate from her. We hear her thoughts mentioning once again that they’re not the same – while she thinks, Zero notices her neck, and instinct causes his him to flinch and then walk away.

Yuki remembers the night Kaname saved her again and considers that it must not really have meant much to him. Serien tells Kaname that it must be troublesome to carry all that chocolate and offers to carry them for him – he tells her that she can eat them if she wishes and that this one is enough for him – it’s Yuki’s. Guess that proves Yuki’s theory wrong, desho? Yuki turns to find Zero gone.
Zero’s back at the stables, those problems seem to be getting even more troublesome -seems as though the time he fully awakens is close. Despite his condition, he senses someone hiding behind a nearby tree and tells them to come out – it’s that girl he saved earlier. I told you he has a new admirer and she wants to give him some chocolate. She could be a good match for him, she’s definitely really sweet ^^. Zero kind of yells at her to go away though… He then turns his attention to Lilly, the horse, and tells her not to look at him with those eyes – somehow that line really seems powerful to me, a little random, I know.
It’s now late evening and Yuki’s out patrolling, and wondering where Zero is. In class, Kaname is also wondering where people are, but in his case it’s Aido and company he’s interested in. He asks Ichijo, who’s happily reading some of the letters that came with the chocolate (so cute!) and Ichijo basically says that he doesn’t know. Well, we’re about to find out – seems as though they’re ganging up on Zero. Aido and Ruka are angry about Zero’s behaviour towards Kaname and Rima and Shiki are there most likely just to see if anything will actually happen, as they point out that they were told not to. Wild backs them up, saying that Kaname will be angry if he finds out. He reaches out to grab Zero’s arm and make him lower the gun – all in the name of peace – and gets flipped. “Uncool…” XD

Zero challenges them and we see some of their powers, such as Aido’s control of ice and Kain’s control of fire. Then Yuki jumps on to the scene (literally) and tells them that fighting’s prohibited, but if they want to she’ll be their first opponent. The Night Class decide to go back to class – I’m thinking that Kaname’s told them not to harm Yuki. Yuki then turns on Zero and asks him why he was involved; he leaves saying that he wants to be alone.

Later when Yuki goes to the bathroom she finds him there and dries his hair, saying that he’ll catch a cold otherwise. She gives him the only piece of chocolate that she succeeded making and he pulls a face – haha! Annoyed she turns from him and Zero’s instincts make him notice her more than usual – he then leaves saying “didn’t I tell you to leave me alone.” Yuki finds a blood tablet on the floor of the bathroom and wonders what it’s doing there – she’s a little slow on the uptake – but that’s what make a shojo heroine, I guess.
The Night Class: Ichijo tells Kaname that all of the vampys that were involved in the Zero incident are very sorry for what they did (they all make a show of pulling sorry faces XD) but then wonders if they hurt Zero’s feelings. Kaname says it can’t be helped because of the incident four years ago – meanwhile Zero’s suffering in his room…
~ End of Summary ~

So what did I think of the episode as a whole? It wasn’t too bad, but it differed ever so slightly from the manga in a way that made me a little disappointed. Also, some of the animation wasn’t up to scratch, some character’s faces in particular looking a little odd – however, as long as standards return to that of the first episode in the next, I’ll not hold it against the anime overall. The scenes with the Night Class were definitely a big plus in my book, and it added points to this episode – oh, and of course the Class President and his love for Ruka was a great highlight too. It was also cool to see some of the vampire powers in the confrontation with Zero, and while Aido’s power over ice was something I knew about from the manga, Wild’s control over fire is definitely new to me. It’s hard to say if this was merely developed for the sake of the anime, or if we’ll be seeing some more of that in the manga too – either way, that scene was quite good, especially the close ups – Rima looked so pretty!
Anyways, my ratings are above, I’ll finish this off so I can write something about the third episode and also start work on some other anime – I’m meaning to follow Code Geass, Soul Eater and of course Pokemon, and that should be made easier after the exams coming up this week.
Join me again! This is Viz signing out!
